The 70th Anniversary Brown Coalition is proud to announce a special theatrical event commemorating the historic 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. Join us for an unforgettable evening of art and history on May 17th, 2024, at 7:00 PM in White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus, 1700 SW Jewell, Topeka, KS 66621.

The evening will feature a powerful production of Now Let Me Fly, a play that reflects the power of collective action and the impact of the five-state class action lawsuit that resulted in the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling. Starring songstress Deborah Joy Winans of Winans family fame and Jason Dirden, both acclaimed actors from the hit OWN TV series GREENLEAF, along with Harvey Williams, an experienced actor and founder of the KC Melting Pot Theatre, the play is a moving tribute to the significance of this landmark case and the fight for equality in education.

Under the direction of Darren Canady and written by Marcia Cebulska, Now Let Me Fly combines riveting performances with a thought-provoking narrative. Based on hundreds of oral histories and personal interviews, the play tells the story of the unsung heroes and heroines in the battle for civil rights. The event also features music direction by Tyson Williams, adding an emotionally resonant layer to the performance. The evening will be emceed by Kevin Willmott, an Academy Award-winning screenwriter known for his work on films such as BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods.

Admission to the event is complimentary thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, and open seating is available for attendees. Ticket registration is required and can be completed online at www.70thanniversarybrowncoalition.org.
